The lady’s slipper orchid, is a terrestrial orchid native to the entire northern hemisphere. The plant can reach 60 cm., It is characterized by having 3 or 4 leaves per stem of about 20 cm, a bright green color, and sometimes forms groups of several individuals.
The flowers are clump-shaped, which is where the common name comes from, and are yellow, with brown petals. It is the largest orchid flower that can be found in Europe and blooms from May to July. A lady’s slipper seed takes four years to germinate and up to eight more to flower.
It is one of the first species of flora to be declared protected worldwide, (1879 in Sweden).
In Catalonia it is listed as an endangered species.
