In 2010, when the “Red Book of Endemic and Vascular Plants of Catalonia” was published, a primary tool for the conservation of the biodiversity of Catalonia, of the approximately 3,600 autochthonous species and subspecies that make up the Catalan flora, 17 of the species most threatened by the impact of human activity had disappeared.
Furthermore, 5.5% of vascular plants were included in some risk category and 37 species were considered to be critically endangered.
As of the 2020 update, the number of threatened species was 7% and only 66.3 of the threatened vascular plants have legal protection.
The existence of protection and environmental policies only makes sense if they are kept alive and updated.
